Prof. Dr. Michèle Sutter-Rüdisser is Adjunct Professor of Organizational Control and Corporate Governance, Director of the Network for Innovative Corporate Governance (NICG) at the University of St. Gallen and Academic Director of the Board of Directors programs at the Executive School. She is also a permanent visiting professor for ‘Banking and Insurance’ at the School of Management of the Università Commerciale Luigi Bocconi in Milan and is an independent member of the supervisory board, bank council and board of directors of various companies.
Previously, she was a visiting professor at the Vienna University of Economics and Business, a senior assistant at the University of Zurich and a visiting scholar in the Department of Business Strategy and Policy at Tsinghua University in Beijing, PR China. She also worked for Ernst & Young AG and, as part of her work-study programme, in the financial services and hotel industries.
She obtained her doctorate in economics with ‘summa cum laude’ from the University of St. Gallen, where she also graduated with a specialization in risk management and financial services. Her research interests include corporate governance, in particular the study of management and supervisory structures in public limited companies with regard to the design of the underlying corporate processes, board governance, especially the analysis of the tasks, duties and working methods of boards of directors in an international comparison, and organizational control, namely the interaction of internal and external corporate control and monitoring activities (audit committee, management, internal and external audit, risk management, and compliance function).
